EEE 205: This is a beginner level course on electronics for the students of Department of EEE, BRAC University. The objectives of this course are to:

a. Introduce the fundamental concepts of semiconductor materials and their properties required to understand the construction of electronic devices.

b. Describe the construction, operation principles, characteristics and modelling (large signal and small signal) of diodes, BJT and MOSFET.

c. Explain how to DC Analyze discrete electronic circuits consisting of electronic devices: Diodes, BJTs and MOSFETs.

d. Perform analysis of application specific diode circuits: Rectifier, Clipper, Clamper, Voltage regulator.

e. Perform analysis of the biasing circuits for BJT Amplifiers.

f. Perform small-signal analysis of amplifier circuits consisting BJT and MOSFET.

g. Design electronic circuits using diodes and BJTs.

About This Course

This is a 3 credit theory course offered by the Department of EEE, BRAC University. Students will learn about the basic electronic circuits and different methods to analyze them.

Fundamental concepts of the semiconductor: electrons and holes, concept of doping, acceptors and donors, p and n-type materials is introduced. PN junction Diode and circuits: Operation principle, Current-Voltage characteristics, Diode models, diode DC analysis, Diode AC analysis: Rectifier circuits, Clipper and Clamper circuits. Zener diode: IV characteristics, zener shunt regulator. Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT): Basic structure, BJT characteristics and regions of operation, BJT Currents, BJT Terminal Voltages, BJT voltage amplification. Bipolar Junction Transistor Biasing: The dc load line and bias point, biasing the BJT for discrete circuits, small signal equivalent circuit models, h parameters. Single-stage BJT amplifier circuits and their configurations: Voltage and current gain, input and output impedances. Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect-Transistor (MOSFET): structure and physical operation of MOSFETs, Threshold voltage, current-voltage characteristics, Small-signal analysis of MOS amplifier.
