About This Course

ENG 102 (English Composition I) aims to enhance the existing language skills of the students at the advanced level where they are expected to be competent language users, with the ability to organize and express thoughts using logical reasoning and reflect the skills of analysing and synthesizing opinions and ideas. The course particularly focuses on developing Written Communication through Critical Thinking and Global Thinking skills.

Although this course specifically focuses on the writing component, it however integrates all four language skills. It highlights reading and writing aspects of the English language for academic purposes while simultaneously exposing learners to speaking and listening skills through online discussions, presentations and collaborative assignments. Students are expected to attain skills in reading comprehension, drawing inferences, practicing rhetorical strategies, creating compositions, synthesizing, critical thinking, technical awareness and global thinking.

Prerequisite

The prerequisite for this course is ENG101: Fundamentals of English, unless you have been placed directly in ENG102 in the admission test.

Course Requirements

• Students are required to watch all video lectures and read the supplementary handouts in order to complete the weekly tasks successfully.

• Completion of weekly tasks (quizzes/discussions/assignments) is mandatory.

• Students are expected to maintain all deadlines.

• Participation in online/live sessions is strongly encouraged.

• Students should regularly check announcements.

• Since this is an advanced writing course, students are required to maintain academic written and spoken correspondence at all times.
