Dear Student of FIN 301,

We sincerely hope that you are safe in the midst of this pandemic situation. As you have been informed earlier that the mid-term exam of FIN 301 will be held on August 16, 2020. We are glad to share with you the detailed guideline for the upcoming Midterm Exam.

Exam Window: 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM on 16 August 2020.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes. The time will start whenever (within the window of eight hours) the student starts the exam. For an average student, the exam is expected to take only 40-45 minutes to complete, however, because of the connect and disconnect issue some of you may face we are providing you an extra 45-50 minutes.

Platform: buX (there will be a separate section titled “Midterm Exam”. You will find it under the “Introduction” section)

         Total Marks: 20

Syllabus: Chapter 1 (An Overview of Financial Management), Chapter 2 (Financial Markets and Institutions), Chapter 3 (Financial Statement and Ratio Analysis), Chapter 4 (Time Value of Money-partially) (Session 8 and Session 9)∙

Question types:

  • Section A:

Numerical input problems: where you need to input the correct answer in numbers only. The required rough works have to be done on scrap paper. You don’t have to submit any calculations.

  • Section B:

Open-ended Questions: questions: where you have to type in your answers. Your answers should be to the point and brief.

Please check the instructions provided with each type of question carefully. You can submit your answers/responses only once. And don’t forget to press the submit button after inputting your final answer, otherwise, the system won’t count your answer. Since you are given more than enough time to answer and this is the second time you are taking the FIN 301 exam on buX. This time we will not entertain any excuse of forgetting to press the submit button. So be very careful this time.

Since there are four sections for FIN 301, we have selected an eight-hour window to accommodate everyone to the exam. Please do not wait for the last hours to attend the exam since you never know what may happen in the future. Our honest intention here is to ensure impartiality to all the students and discourage free-riders.

Read the “Brac University Student Honor Code” carefully and follow the instructions strictly.

Since it is an online semester, we suggest you do the following:

  • Study well

  • Keep a backup plan in case the local internet connection or power supply gets disrupted. Taking the online-exam will not even consume data equivalent to a 5-minute video lecture. For those using laptops please acquaint yourself in connecting your laptop to the internet using mobile data in case there is a local internet connection failure or power failure.

  • Because of the 8-hour long window, it is very unlikely that you will altogether miss attending the midterm exam.  Still, in case you are unable to attend the scheduled exam for a valid or unavoidable reason, you are instructed to contact your respective course instructor immediately specifying the exact reason with proper justification through email or by phone. (Emergency phone number will be provided in the first page of the exam)

  • If you face any technical difficulty, don't panic since you have been given enough extra time. At the time of contacting your respective faculty member, you can use a screen recorder or your mobile camera to make a video of the problem you are facing. Or you can use the google meet link we will send you where by sharing your screen you can show the problem you are facing.
  • We expect our students to behave ethically while giving exams. You will have to digitally sign (text input your name) Brac University Honour Code in order to start the exam. If you do not digitally sign your midterm will not be graded. BracU has a strict policy regarding plagiarism and cheating to ensure educational integrity. As such students found guilty of plagiarizing or cheating may end up getting their tests canceled.

  • Some students from each section will be randomly selected and emailed within an hour after the closure of the exam window to join a post-exam viva session which may have a duration of 5/10 minutes. During the short vivas, students will be asked about their exam answers and related questions to assess whether their response during the viva matches with the answers they have written in the mid-term exam. Therefore, students are asked to check their email during that time to comply with the guideline. The viva will take place within 24 hours after the mid-term exam window closes.

  • Please check buX at 2:00 PM on 16 August 2020.

Please feel free to email us at any time before the exam date if you have any concerns or queries regarding the test.

Best wishes to you all.

Dear Student of FIN 301,

Well wishes to all our students. We sincerely hope that you and your family are safe and sound in this pandemic situation. Since online teaching and learning is new for both the teachers and the learners, we need to keep our heads, be positive, and help each other to pull it through. It was a challenge for us to design an appropriate assessment method that will ensure impartiality and integrity. While designing the structure of the exam, the following points were in our priority list-

·                                       -Connectivity issues faced by the students

·                                       -Educational integrity

·                                      -Guidelines set by the buX team for exams
