About the course

Welcome to the "Inorganic Pharmacy II" course. This course gives a systemic overview of the importance of inorganic agents from a pharmaceutical point of view.

Summary description

Inorganic Pharmacy is the branch of pharmacy that deals with inorganic compounds. Medicinally useful substances are derived from either organic or inorganic sources. This course mainly deals with the study of inorganic pharmaceuticals. This course introduces chemical principles with relevant pharmaceutical examples allowing students to see the relevance of this subject for their future professions.

Specific learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students shall be able to:

- recognize different classes of inorganic pharmaceuticals

- understand the medicinal and pharmaceutical importance of inorganic compounds

- appreciate the importance of inorganic pharmaceuticals in preventing and curing the disease

- integrate knowledge from foundational sciences to explain how specific drugs or drug classes work and evaluate their potential value in individuals and populations

- gather knowledge on synthesis, qualitative control, characterization, quantitative control of pharmaceutical preparations which contain inorganic drugs, their mechanism of action at the molecular level as well as their use and side effects.

General course requirements

- Students are strongly advised to watch all video lectures in order to complete the weekly tasks successfully.

- Students are encouraged to attend the live discussion classes.

- Completion of weekly tasks are mandatory.

- Students are expected to meet the task submission deadlines.

- Students should regularly check announcements.

Course Instructors

Tanisha Tabassum Sayka Khan

Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy

Tanisha Tabassum Sayka Khan joined the Department of Pharmacy, Brac University as a lecturer in January 2020. She completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy from Brac University and obtained her Master’s degree in Biochemistry from Friedrich Schiller University in Germany. After completion of her undergraduate studies, she worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of Pharmacy of Brac University until she left to pursue the MSc degree. During her Bachelor, her project work included drug formulation and analytical method development using HPLC. Her Master thesis was focused on generation and characterization of breast cancer predisposing gene knockout cell lines using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. Apart from that, she also gained research experience with different disease induced cell lines to study the epigenetic modifications and effect of certain drugs.
